Vita
The clarinetist Thomas Holzmann was born in Schärding, Austria. His main studies took
him to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he perfected his
clarinet skills under the instruction of Johann Hindler.
In the 2004-2005 music season, Thomas Holzmann received a scholarship from the
Herbert von Karajan Center and was also sponsored by Leitz Austria Vertriebs GmbH.
He was able to gain formative experience as an orchestra musician and academic with
the Staatskapelle Dresden. Subsequently, he was engaged as a principal clarinetist with
both the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra.
Since February 2017 Thomas Holzmann has been a principal clarinetist with the
Deutsches Symphonie Orchestra Berlin.
He regularly plays as a guest solist in other orchestras, such as the Berlin
Philharmonic, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and
the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln.
Thomas Holzmann taught his own clarinet class at the Nuremberg University of Music
from 2016-2019 and currently offers master classes all over the world.
